There's no time like the present to find more ways to fuel your houseplant addiction. While in-person shopping is arguably one of the best ways to pick out plants because you get to choose your own perfect specimen, it may be challenging to make such visits right now. Depending on where you live, your local plant shop may or may not be open for business or might be on reduced hours/curbside pickup only. Additionally, social distancing measures can make for long lines at popular stores (I'm looking at you, Indoor Sun Shoppe).
Lucky for us, the Internet is here to save the day. Buying live plants online always comes with some level of risk. You don't get to pick the exact shape or coloring of your desired plant and you have to keep in mind extreme weather conditions at the time of shipping (such as incredibly hot or cold temperatures). When purchasing from individuals on Etsy, Facebook, Craigslist, or other marketplaces, you also run the risk of the plant not being as described at all (I've seen some real horror stories). There are, however, some excellent online plant shops out there savvy in the business of safely shipping high-quality plants.
If this seems right up your alley (I assume it is, because one way or another you clicked into this post), then buckle up! I'm going to share with you ten of my favorite online plant shops that you should know about today.
1. Pigment
Website: https://www.shoppigment.com
Location: San Diego, CA
Shipping: To contiguous 48 states + international
Pigment has a large selection of plants, including houseplants, succulents, cacti, and air plants. In addition to selling plants, Pigment also sells women's apparel, home decor, stationery, children's toys and apparel, and sweets. Come for the beautiful plants, stay for the oat milk chocolate.

2. Lively Root
Website: https://www.livelyroot.com
Location: San Marcos, CA
Shipping: To contiguous 48 states. Additional shipping restrictions may apply to certain states. Free ground shipping through UPS on all orders.
Most plants have the option of being shipped either in a growers pot or a ceramic pot or basket (for larger plants) for an additional fee. If you're looking to purchase a plant as a gift, their website also lets you filter for appropriate plants based on the occasion (such as anniversary, new home, birthday, or sympathy).

3. Ansel & Ivy
Website: https://anselandivy.com
Location: San Francisco, CA
Shipping: To contiguous 48 states. Free shipping on $75+.
As the online plant shop featured in Martha Stewart, Marie Claire, and Domino, this little shop is clearly doing something right. The plants are beautiful and each one comes lovingly potted in a ceramic planter in your choice of color. Planters can also be purchased separately if you have some "naked" plants at home sitting in their nursery pots still.

4. Bella Succulent Shop
Website: BellaSucculentShop on Etsy
Location: Tampa, FL
Shipping: To contiguous 48 states. Ships Monday-Wednesday via USPS Priority Mail.
I love a good Etsy shop, and this one checks all the boxes. This small business has a much smaller selection than other shops, however, you'll find some incredibly pretty plant varieties such as Syngonium Neon Robusta and Ficus Elastica Tineke. The shop also has glowing customer reviews and photos of plants people actually received.

5. The Sill
Website: https://www.thesill.com
Location: New York City, NY
Shipping: To contiguous 48 states. Contactless local delivery may be available on certain items in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
The Sill is perhaps one of the most "millennial" startups imaginable. Not only are we obsessed with Instagram-worthy brunch locations and IKEA furniture, but we also apparently are really into buying plants. Hence founder Eliza Blank seized the day and created one of the first online plant shops in addition to opening three brick-and-mortar locations.
If you're the ultimate Plant King/Queen/Royal, you can even sign up for a subscription to have new plants shipped to you each month. Alternatively, if you purchase a lot of plants but think monthly might be a bit much, you can sign up for The Sill's Plant Parent Club (have you noticed this theme with millennials of being parents to anything but an actual human child?). For $39 a year you can get access to free standard shipping, 10% off purchases, access to events and workshops, and more.
The cherry on top: each plant comes complete with an earthenware pot in your choice of color.

6. Terrain
Website: https://www.shopterrain.com
Location: Pennsylvania
Shipping: To contiguous 48 states. Ships via 2nd Day Air.
Terrain is slightly more pricey than other shops on this list, but if you're a fan of stores like Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters then adding this sister store to your list may make sense. Terrain is a trendy outdoor gardening store featuring houseplants in additional to floral bouquets, outdoor furniture, home decor, and general gardening supplies. Dried and faux florals are also available.

7. Peace, Love, and Happiness Club
Website: https://peaceloveandhappiness.club
Location: Seattle, WA
Shipping: To contiguous 48 states + Alaska & Hawaii (woo!)
If rare and exotic collector plants are what you're after, then look no further than this cute little shop based out of my hometown of Seattle. You could easily spend a bit more money on plants here than you typically would other places, but this shop has its fair share of affordable gems and classic houseplant favorites as well. Give their inventory a look, and don't forget to pick out a pretty planter to house your new plant (they have many cute ones)!

8. Wild Flora
Website: https://wildfloradesign.com
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Shipping: Monday-Thursday delivery in the Los Angeles area only.
Wild Flora is not just a plant, home goods, and gift shop, but a floral and landscape design studio as well! Their bouquets and wedding florals are stunning, and you can also pick up a variety of dried florals. Currently, Wild Flora does not ship there live plants country-wide so this plant option will be available to residents of the Greater Los Angeles area only. But if you're a California resident, this shop is definitely worth checking out!

9. Reptile Plants
Website: ReptilePlants on Etsy
Location: New Port Richey, FL
Shipping: To contiguous 48 states. Shipping Monday-Wednesday via USPS Priority Mail.
Here's another Etsy shop for you! Reptile Plants has hundreds of positive reviews on Etsy and features some of the prettiest plants! If you are a Syngonium lover, especially, you will find some lovely specimens among the inventory. These plants are smaller and younger, typically shipping in 4" nursery pots, giving you the opportunity to practice your plant parenting skills and grow your new plant to full maturity!
